On Saturday, we have a really fun beer experience to share with you! We’re partnering with our friends, Krombacher, to do a little beer poking.
Beer poking? Yes. Here’s a quick rundown…
A Casual History:
Colonial America had a savage thirst for alcoholic beverages. Some things never change, right? A big-time staple of Colonial America was rum. Along the way, a technique developed for warming-up your party drink. An iron was laid over fire and then sunk in to the drink. The result was a warmer beverage in the cold months and a pleasant caramelization of residual sugars.
Eventually the technique was brought to beer and polished over time.
The Beer Poking Event:
While beer poking can be used on any beer you feel like, there’s a pretty firm agreement that darker lagers are a top notch choice. Who better than Krombacher to help us with this delicious beer? No one.
We’ll be heating a stainless steel loggerhead (beer poking rod thing) and sinking it in to a cold, smooth Krombacher Dark for you. The result will be a slightly more rounded, subtly sweeter and nutty Krombacher Dark.
Some of you may be saying, “Hey, Krombacher Dark is perfect!” Yes it is, but we like doing weird stuff for your amusement and the changes are subtle.
For those of you who’d like to try a poked Krombacher Dark, let your bartender know, and we’ll meet you out by the fire on the patio. The poking is complimentary, of course.

Grab your coat and stop in. The weather is looking like it’ll be pretty steady. By all means, carpool or ride share if you can. You’re going to want more than one of these.
