Allagash White Gin Beermosa
If your mom enjoys the finer things in life, such as beer, it might be a great time to switch your Mother’s Day brunch beverage to my simple and effective Gin Beermosa.
I know, I know...gin…”it’s so scary”. Trust me on this one, the smallest splash of gin brings out all of the wonderful flavors hiding underneath that sweet orange juice.
Now let’s start with the foundation, great beer. Now, there are an abundance of delicious beers that will work for this. Over the years, I’ve dialed this in and I have been using Allagash White. It’s a perfect example of a Belgian-style witbier - balanced, refreshing and ideal for a brunch-like setting, even if it has to be on Zoom. White has a timeless loveliness, just like Mom. White has been there for you for years, just like Mom. Do you see where this is going? Good. Let’s move on.
Next we have the juice. We’ll stay on the safe path and select orange as our juice. You can stick with a little pulp, just like I do. If pulp freaks you out, use pulp-free. I won’t know unless you tag me in your Beermosa pic.
Now, for the extra splash of sass, we have gin. You can use any kind of gin you want, just don’t use vodka. Giving Mom a splash of vodka is like giving her a dandelion when you were a kid. It has no personality and she’s only going to say she likes it because you gave it to her. My (readily available) gin of choice for Beermosas Bombay Sapphire. It’s brighter and more citrusy than my usual (readily available) sipping gin, which is Hendrick’s. Hendrick’s comes across as far more Earthy and floral. It will detract from the other ingredients instead of lift them to the next level of Momliness...which should be next to awesomeness.
By The Glass: Use a pint. Your Mom’s not a dainty sipper and you know it. No shaker pints. Please use the following steps in order. I’ve learned lessons.
9 oz. of Allagash White (Rouse the Yeast First!)
5 oz. of Orange Juice
1 oz. of Bombay Sapphire
Swizzle it lightly for a few seconds.
If you need to make more than one at a time, the results on batching this out are linear as long as it’s mixed well.
That’s it! You’re all set to raise the brunch cocktail game for Mom on this most epic of days! She put up with whatever it was that you were up to all those years. It’s time to pay it back. Breanne and I would like to extend our best to all of you rad Moms out there. It’s not an easy job, or a well-paying job...but there’s booze at the end of the tunnel.
Cheers!
