Plank Road Tap Room Expands Hospitality Footprint in Partnership with City of Elgin to Launch Chip Shots Golf & Whiskey Bar at Historic Wing Park
Elgin, IL — September 25, 2025 After more than a decade serving the Elgin community, Plank Road Tap Room is expanding its footprint through a new partnership with the City of Elgin. Through its newly formed parent company, Skål Hús Hospitality, and operating arm, Chip Shots Payroll, LLC, the team will oversee the development and operation of Chip Shots Golf & Whiskey Bar at the historic Wing Park Golf Course. This collaboration blends Plank Road’s reputation for hospitality with the City’s vision for enhancing one of Elgin’s most cherished community assets.
Construction of the new Wing Park clubhouse is already underway, with a grand opening planned for Spring 2026. Chip Shots Golf & Whiskey Bar will bring:
A chef-inspired food program anchored by a permanent on-site food truck
A curated lineup of whiskey, house-made cocktails, and craft beer
Cutting-edge golf simulators to complement the classic 9-hole course
Year-round events, private rentals, and new opportunities for the community to gather
Plank Road Tap Room has tapped Chef Joseph Mosconi to help shape the culinary vision for Chip Shots. Known locally for his Fox Valley area pop-up Le Truff Noir, and with a background that includes acclaimed restaurants in Las Vegas, Chicago, and Geneva, Mosconi brings an elevated yet approachable style that will define the Chip Shots food truck menu.

About Plank Road Tap Room
Founded in 2013 by Alan & Breanne Moreno, Plank Road Tap Room sits on a 7-acre property in unincorporated Elgin (Udina, IL) that has been in Breanne’s family for more than a century. The Tap Room features a large beer garden, log cabin Tap Room, and a half-mile of private nature/snowshoe trails, creating a one-of-a-kind destination for both public and private events. Originally opening as a beer-only taproom, Plank Road adapted during the pandemic and the evolving craft beer industry, and today offers beer, cider, wine, house-made cocktails, and whiskey. Also highlighting a variety of rotating food trucks.
The property on Plank Road has long been a hub for community and entrepreneurship. In the 1990s and early 2000s, Breanne’s parents Larry & Roxanne Christiansen operated a general store in the same cabin that now houses the Tap Room.
Deep Elgin Roots
Breanne and Alan’s stories are both deeply connected to Elgin and Wing Park. Breanne’s great-grandfather, Harold Christiansen, emigrated from Denmark, built his home near Wing Park, and operated a local dairy delivery business by horse and buggy. This Scandinavian heritage inspired the name Skål Hús Hospitality, with “Skål” meaning “cheers” and “Hús” meaning “house.”
Alan’s family also shares ties to Wing Park. His grandparents lived in a home near the course, and his grandfather, Tony Moreno, was a regular golfer at Wing Park, playing often with friends who called themselves the Pan American Golf Association (PAGA).
Together, these connections reflect Skål Hús Hospitality’s vision: “Raise a glass. Find your place.”
Looking Ahead
During construction of the new clubhouse building, we will collaborate with the City of Elgin’s golf operations team to support ongoing course operations and prepare for the grand opening in Spring 2026.
